**2 Samuel 16:17** โ€” *"Is this the loyalty you show your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?"*

Absalom's words drip with manipulation. He weaponizes the language of covenant loyalty โ€” *hesed* โ€” to seduce Hushai away from David. The very vocabulary of faithful friendship becomes a tool of betrayal.

Yet Hushai held. He remained tethered to his king, not by convenience, but by covenant. And through that fidelity, God's counsel prevailed over Ahithophel's deadly wisdom (2 Samuel 17:14).

Scripture reminds us that loyalty is tested precisely when the crowd shifts allegiance. Proverbs 17:17 anchors it plainly: *"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity."*

The shepherd who abides with the flock when wolves appear โ€” that is the measure of covenant friendship.

Consider the Hushai in your life, and the Hushai you are called to be.
