**Ezekiel 32:18** โ *"Son of man, wail for the multitudes of Egypt, and consign her and the daughters of the mighty nations to the depths of the earth with those who descend to the Pit."*
The prophet does not celebrate here. He *wails.*
Egypt was a civilization of breathtaking power โ monuments that still stand, armies that shook the earth. Yet God commands mourning over her fall, not triumphant applause. This is the mercy woven into divine judgment: even the condemned are grieved over.
Ezekiel was not permitted to gloat. Neither are we.
Scripture reminds us that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked *(Ezekiel 18:23)*. Judgment is real and certain โ but it is never cause for cold indifference or self-righteous satisfaction. The shepherd weeps at the gate even when the sheep will not return.
Consider the weight of that calling โ to hold truth and compassion in the same hand, without flinching from either.
