**Numbers 22:31** โ *"Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand. And Balaam bowed low and fell facedown."*
Balaam had been walking the road for some time before he saw what his donkey already knew.
This is not a story about a talking animal. It is a story about a man so fixed on his own destination โ his profit, his prestige โ that divine obstruction registered only as inconvenience.
The LORD did not remove the angel. He opened the eyes.
Consider the mercy in that sequence. God did not redirect Balaam from a distance. He let him walk close enough to the drawn sword to feel its weight.
Sometimes the obstacle in your path is not the enemy of your purpose โ it is the guardian of it.
Scripture reminds us that grace often arrives with a sword before it arrives with a blessing.
Walk with that today.
