**1 Kings 13:18** โ€” *"The old prophet was lying to him."*

Five words that should arrest every believer who has ever received "a word from the Lord" secondhand.

The man of God in this passage had stood firm against a king. He had refused royal hospitality and obeyed God's explicit command. Then a fellow prophet โ€” older, seemingly credible โ€” fabricated divine authority to redirect him.

And he believed it. And it cost him his life.

Scripture reminds us that spiritual credentials do not guarantee spiritual truth. Paul echoes this soberly in Galatians 1:8 โ€” *"even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse."*

The beloved Word you have already received is your plumb line. What sounds holy is not always holy. What sounds kind is not always true.

Let us reflect on how faithfully we guard the original instruction โ€” before the second voice arrives.
