**2 Samuel 24:8** โ€” *"At the end of nine months and twenty days, having gone through the whole land, they returned to Jerusalem."*

Nine months. Twenty days. Every village counted, every household tallied โ€” and at the end of it, David's census revealed not Israel's strength, but his own fear dressed as strategy.

Scripture reminds us that even faithful shepherds can mistake the measuring of what God has given for trust in the One who gave it. The census wasn't sinful because numbers are wrong. It was sinful because David sought security in the count rather than in the covenant.

We do this quietly โ€” auditing our resources, our relationships, our influence โ€” not in gratitude, but in anxiety. The steward who cannot rest until everything is tallied has forgotten whose flock it truly is.

Walk with open hands today. The land God has given you does not need your census to remain His.
