**Deuteronomy 3:5** — *"All these cities were fortified with high walls and gates and bars, and there were many more unwalled villages."*

Moses is cataloguing conquest — not poetry, but inventory. The distinction matters: walled cities represented concentrated power, military permanence, the pride of Bashan. Yet God moved through both the fortified strongholds *and* the forgotten, unwalled villages. No gate was too thick. No settlement too obscure.

We tend to measure significance by fortification — by credentials, platforms, visible strength. Scripture reminds us that God's covenant purposes are not deterred by walls, nor do they overlook the unprotected places.

The unwalled villages received the same inheritance as the fortified cities. Grace does not scale by impressiveness.

Walk with that today — the places in your life that feel exposed, undefended, unfinished. They are not outside His reach. The same God who brought down Bashan's gates dwells just as sovereignly in the open, unguarded spaces of your story.

Let us reflect on what we have unnecessarily fortified against Him.
