**Acts 16:28** โ€” *"But Paul called out in a loud voice, 'Do not harm yourself! We are all here!'"*

The jailer's sword was already drawn. He assumed the worst โ€” that the prisoners had fled, that his failure was total, that death was preferable to disgrace.

Paul saw a man about to perish over a false conclusion.

This is the pastoral moment we so often miss. Before the gospel was spoken, *presence* was declared. "We are all here." Grace arrived as witness before it arrived as word.

Consider the steward who watches over souls โ€” the work is not only to testify of Christ, but to interrupt despair with truth. Many a person lifts a metaphorical sword over a situation that is not what they believe it to be.

Walk with those in darkness long enough to speak into it.

The jailer's household was saved that very night โ€” not because Paul escaped, but because he stayed.

Let that abide with you.
