**1 Kings 12:1** โ€” *"Then Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him king."*

Shechem was no ordinary city. It was the place where Abraham first received the covenant promise, where Jacob buried foreign gods, where Joshua called the tribes to choose whom they would serve. Rehoboam walked into layered, sacred ground โ€” and he carried none of its weight.

What followed is well known: a young king who inherited a throne but rejected wisdom, chose flattery over counsel, and fractured a kingdom that had taken generations to build.

Stewardship of authority is one of Scripture's most searching themes. God entrusts leadership not as a reward to be enjoyed, but as a covenant responsibility to be carried โ€” with mercy, with humility, with the fear of the Lord.

Consider the ground beneath your own feet of influence today โ€” and what kind of steward you are choosing to be.
