**Matthew 26:4** โ€” *"and they conspired to arrest Jesus covertly and kill Him."*

A room full of religious leaders. Torchlight. Hushed voices. A plan forming in the dark.

What strikes me here is the word *covertly*. These were men who claimed to steward God's covenant with Israel โ€” yet they could not do what they intended in the light of day. The darkness they required was its own confession.

Scripture reminds us that Pilate later found no fault in Him. The crowds had welcomed Him with palms. Even Judas, in the end, said, *"I have betrayed innocent blood"* (Matthew 27:4).

Every layer of this conspiracy testifies to the same truth: no accusation could hold. No shadow could contain Him.

They conspired in secret because the light of Christ exposes what cannot withstand honest scrutiny.

Walk with that today โ€” and consider what it means that the One they could not openly condemn willingly walked toward that very cross.
