**1 Kings 18:27** โ€” *"Shout louder, for he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or occupied, or on a journey. Perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened!"*

Elijah's taunt is almost uncomfortable to read. He mocks the prophets of Baal with surgical precision โ€” cataloguing every limitation a false god might have. Distracted. Absent. Asleep.

The contrast is devastating in its clarity. Israel's God had just that morning been silent to them โ€” not because He was occupied, but because He was *waiting*. Waiting on Elijah. Waiting on the people. Waiting to reveal Himself in fire that would leave no room for ambiguity.

The gods we construct โ€” from ambition, from comfort, from fear โ€” share every weakness Elijah named. They cannot hear. They do not act. They must be coaxed.

The God of covenant needs no coaxing. He answers before the altar is even fully drenched.

Walk with that certainty today โ€” and consider what altars you have been tending.
