**2 Kings 25:24** — *"Do not be afraid of the Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you."*
Gedaliah spoke these words to scattered survivors after Jerusalem's fall — a shattered people, trembling in the ruins of everything they had known. His counsel was not triumphant. It was sober, grounded, and deeply merciful: *stay, serve faithfully, and trust the covenant God who still governs even Babylon's king.*
There is a quiet pastoral wisdom here. God's provision does not always arrive as rescue from hard circumstances — sometimes it arrives as grace sufficient *within* them.
