**2 Kings 25:24** โ *"Do not be afraid of the Chaldeans. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you."*
Gedaliah spoke these words to scattered survivors after Jerusalem's fall โ a shattered people, trembling in the ruins of everything they had known. His counsel was not triumphant. It was sober, grounded, and deeply merciful: *stay, serve faithfully, and trust the covenant God who still governs even Babylon's king.*
There is a quiet pastoral wisdom here. God's provision does not always arrive as rescue from hard circumstances โ sometimes it arrives as grace sufficient *within* them. Gedaliah was not asking these men to celebrate their chains. He was calling them to abide with dignity where Providence had placed them.
The beloved of God are not always led *out* of difficulty. Sometimes they are led *through* it, steady and unafraid.
Let us reflect on where we are being called to dwell faithfully today.
