The Hebrew word here for pride — *gābah* — carries the image of something elevated beyond its proper height. A tree grown too tall for its roots. Solomon isn't warning against confidence; he's diagnosing a posture of soul that refuses to receive correction, counsel, or grace from above.

Consider the steward who insists he needs no shepherd. He may hold the keys for a season — but the weight of self-sufficiency eventually collapses what it was meant to carry.

Humility, by contrast, is not weakness dressed in religious language. It is the quiet strength of one who knows whose hand sustains them. Scripture reminds us in James 4:10 — *"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up."*

The honor promised here is not applause. It is alignment — with God, with truth, with the life you were made to walk.
