**2 Kings 16:1** โ€” *"In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah."*

A single verse. A date stamp. A throne change.

What scripture records here is not merely political succession โ€” it is the weight of inherited legacy meeting personal choice. Ahaz had a father, Jotham, who *"did what was right in the eyes of the LORD"* (2 Kings 15:34). Yet Ahaz would become one of Judah's most faithless kings, burning his own son as an offering (2 Kings 16:3).

Covenant faithfulness does not transfer by bloodline. Each generation must choose whom they will serve.

Consider the steward who inherits a rich table but squanders every provision. The inheritance was real. The waste was also real.

Scripture reminds us โ€” God's mercy extends to every generation, but each soul stands before Him on its own walk of obedience.

What we inherit shapes us. What we choose *defines* us.
