**Amos 7:13** โ€” *"But never prophesy at Bethel again, because it is the sanctuary of the king and the temple of the kingdom."*

Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, silenced Amos not with theology โ€” but with politics. The sanctuary had been absorbed by the crown. Sacred space, consecrated vocabulary, religious ceremony โ€” all repurposed to protect power rather than testify to truth.

This is a sobering pattern. When the covenant community allows the voice of the king to outrank the voice of God, worship becomes decoration for the throne.

Amos did not comply. He sojourned back to his figs and flocks โ€” and kept speaking (Amos 7:14โ€“15). His authority was not institutional. It was given by the One who forms mountains and creates the wind (Amos 4:13).

Scripture reminds us: the Word of God is not bound by the walls that try to contain it (2 Timothy 2:9).

Consider the sanctuaries in your own life where comfort has slowly displaced conviction.
