**1 Kings 11:2** โ€” *"Yet Solomon clung to these women in love."*

That single phrase carries the weight of a kingdom's collapse. Solomon โ€” the man who built the Temple, who prayed with unmatched eloquence at its dedication, who was visited twice by the living God โ€” did not stumble into idolatry through ignorance. He walked there through affection, slowly, covenant by covenant.

This is the particular danger of gradual drift: it rarely feels like rebellion. It feels like loyalty. Like love, even.

The LORD had spoken plainly in Deuteronomy 7:3โ€“4 โ€” *"Do not intermarry with them... for they will turn your children away from following me."* Solomon had read those words. He knew the covenant. And still, he clung.

Scripture reminds us that wisdom unguarded by obedience becomes its own undoing. The wisest man who ever lived is proof.

Let us reflect on what we are clinging to โ€” and whether it is drawing us toward God or quietly away.
