**Joshua 9:19** โ€” *"All the leaders answered, 'We have sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel, and now we cannot touch them.'"*

The Gibeonites had deceived Israel completely โ€” worn sandals, stale bread, cracked wineskins, a well-rehearsed lie. And yet, when the truth surfaced, the leaders of Israel held their covenant word.

Not because the Gibeonites deserved it. Not because the oath was wise. But because the Name invoked over it was holy.

This is the weight of covenant-keeping: it transcends the circumstances that surrounded the promise. Israel's leaders understood that an oath sworn by the LORD was no longer merely *their* word โ€” it had become His.

Scripture reminds us that God himself keeps covenant "to a thousand generations" (Deuteronomy 7:9), not because we merit it, but because His Name is bound to His word.

Walk with that truth today โ€” the God who holds you to your promises is the same God who never breaks His own.
