**Romans 6:7** β€” *"For anyone who has died has been freed from sin."*

Paul wrote this to believers in Rome who still carried the weight of their former lives β€” men and women who wondered if the old self would always have the final word.

It will not.

To be baptized into Christ is to have passed through a legal verdict. The Greek word here, *dedikaiōtai*, is a courtroom term β€” acquitted, discharged, released. Sin no longer holds jurisdiction over the one who has died with Christ.

This is not a feeling to be chased. It is a standing to be received.

Walk with that today β€” not as someone straining to escape the past, but as one who has already been declared free by the covenant mercy of a risen Savior.

The gavel has fallen. The sentence has been served. Let us reflect on what it means to live as those who are no longer on trial.
