**Nehemiah 5:12** โ€” *"We will restore it," they replied, "and will require nothing more from them. We will do as you say." So I summoned the priests and required of the nobles and officials an oath that they would do what they had promised."*

Nehemiah didn't accept good intentions. He summoned priests and bound the nobles to a sworn covenant โ€” because words without accountability are vapor.

This is the pastoral wisdom of a true steward: he understood that repentance without structure rarely holds. The oath wasn't distrust โ€” it was mercy toward human weakness. He built a fence around their promise so it could survive the pressure of tomorrow's self-interest.

Consider the leaders and communities you serve within. Restoration requires more than agreement in the room. It requires the kind of covenant accountability that holds when the moment of goodwill has passed.

Walk with integrity not only in what you promise, but in how you protect the promises you make.
