Solomon did not soften this. He gave us two apex predators — raw, specific, unmistakable — and placed them alongside a ruler who has forgotten his covenant duty to the vulnerable.
Power without accountability becomes predatory. History testifies to this. So does the evening news.
Yet Scripture does not leave us without a counter-image. Psalm 72:12 describes the faithful king: *"He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help."* And Micah 3:1 indicts leaders who *"should know justice"* but devour their own people.
The shepherd and the predator are not separated by title — they are separated by character.
Walk with wisdom here: those entrusted with authority over others carry a weight that will one day be answered for before a throne far higher than any they now occupy.
