**Isaiah 22:8** โ *"He has uncovered the defenses of Judah. On that day you looked to the weapons in the House of the Forest."*
Jerusalem's walls were exposed โ and rather than turning to the Lord, the people ran to the armory. They counted spears. They inspected shields. They trusted the inventory.
This is the oldest human reflex: when the covering is stripped away, we reach for what we can hold in our hands.
The House of the Forest was Solomon's great hall, built of cedar from Lebanon โ impressive, storied, full of gleaming bronze. It looked like strength. It felt like security. But Isaiah's word cuts through the cedar and bronze alike: *uncovered* defenses are not restored by better weapons.
True shelter is not found in what we stockpile, but in whom we abide.
Let us reflect today on what we reach for first when our defenses feel thin โ and whether that reach leads us toward the armory or toward the Lord.
