**Jeremiah 35:6** โ€” *"We do not drink wine, for our forefather Jonadab son of Rechab commanded us, 'Neither you nor your descendants are ever to drink wine.'"*

The Rechabites had no written law, no temple, no priest standing over them. They had a word passed down through generations โ€” and they kept it. When Jeremiah tested them, they did not waver, did not negotiate, did not soften the edges of what they had been given.

God commended them not for their theology, but for their faithfulness to a covenant entrusted to their household.

This is a pastoral word for stewards of every kind โ€” parents, elders, those who carry something sacred across time. The Rechabites remind us that obedience preserved across generations is itself an act of worship.

Scripture reminds us: what we pass down, we are accountable for.

Consider the covenant living in your household โ€” and whether those who come after you will find it still intact.
