**Luke 12:20** โ€” *"You fool! This very night your life will be required of you. Then who will own what you have accumulated?"*

The rich man in this parable didn't fail because he planned ahead. He failed because his planning had no room for God โ€” or for the neighbor who might need what he was hoarding.

Notice the word *required*. In the Greek, *apaitousin* carries the force of a debt being called in. His life was never truly his to spend. It was held on loan, and the Lender came to collect.

This is the steward's solemn reality: what we accumulate โ€” wealth, influence, time, talent โ€” is covenant property entrusted to us, not owned by us. The barn was full. The soul was empty.

Walk with that tension today. Consider the gap between what you are building and what God is asking you to become.

*By grace, may our barns and our hearts be filled with what endures.*
