**Acts 27:43** โ€” *"But the centurion, wanting to spare Paul's life, thwarted their plan. He commanded those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land."*

A Roman soldier โ€” trained for conquest, not covenant โ€” became the instrument of God's mercy aboard a sinking ship. He didn't know the full weight of what he was preserving. He simply acted with unexpected grace toward a prisoner.

Scripture reminds us that God's purposes are not held hostage to the willingness of His vessels. Julius the centurion had no theology of divine providence. Yet Proverbs 21:1 tells us, *"The king's heart is a channel of water in the hand of the LORD."*

Paul's life was shielded not by his own strength, but by sovereign mercy flowing through an unlikely steward.

Consider the people in your own life who have sheltered you โ€” perhaps without ever knowing they were answering a higher call.

Walk with that awareness today.
