**2 Kings 17:15** โ€” *"They pursued worthless idols and became worthless themselves, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to imitate."*

There is a sobering logic embedded in this verse: we become what we worship.

Israel didn't simply adopt foreign customs โ€” they surrendered their covenant identity, the very thing that set them apart as God's beloved people. Imitation of the nations wasn't neutral cultural borrowing. It was a slow erosion of the soul.

Paul echoes this warning in Romans 12:2 โ€” *"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."*

The steward who fills his life with worthless pursuits will find himself shaped by them, hollowed by them.

Scripture reminds us that covenant identity is not preserved passively โ€” it requires active abiding, deliberate worship, and the courage to remain distinct.

Consider the thing you have imitated most this season โ€” and what it has made of you.
