**Deuteronomy 12:3** β€” *"Tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, burn up their Asherah poles, cut down the idols of their gods, and wipe out their names from every place."*

This is not gentle housekeeping. God commands Israel to *demolish* β€” completely, physically, without sentiment β€” every structure that once held sacred space for false worship.

The Hebrew verb *nātas* (tear down) carries the weight of deliberate force. These altars didn't fall by neglect. They required intention.

Consider the altars we quietly maintain β€” not carved from stone, but built from habit, approval, comfort, control. They rarely announce themselves as rivals to God. They simply accumulate, quietly receiving what belongs to Him alone.

Covenant faithfulness, Scripture reminds us, is not passive. It is an act of stewardship over the interior life β€” tending what we allow to stand, and dismantling what we've permitted to rise in His place.

Walk with that image today β€” and let it search you.
