**Ruth 1:10** โ€” *"Surely we will return with you to your people."*

Orpah and Ruth spoke these words before the road divided them. One turned back. One held on.

What strikes me here is not the failure of Orpah โ€” she is never condemned โ€” but the *weight* of that first declaration. Both daughters-in-law meant it when they said it. Covenant loyalty is easy to profess at the threshold; it deepens only when the road grows costly.

Ruth's "surely" became action. Hers was not sentiment โ€” it was a reordering of kindred, land, and God. *"Your people shall be my people, and your God my God"* (Ruth 1:16) follows directly because the heart had already decided before the feet moved.

Scripture reminds us that devotion is not measured at the moment of declaration, but at the moment departure becomes possible โ€” and we stay anyway.

Walk with that today.
