**Isaiah 10:23** โ *"For the Lord GOD of Hosts will carry out the destruction decreed upon the whole land."*
There is a phrase here that stops the careful reader cold: *decreed*. This is not reactive judgment โ it is deliberate, measured, sovereign. The LORD of Hosts does not scramble. He does not revise. What He has spoken, He will accomplish, even when the instrument of that word is Assyria โ a nation that did not know it was being held in His hand (Isaiah 10:7).
This is the same God who decrees mercy in Christ (Romans 8:1), who decrees a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11), who decrees the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:54).
The covenant-keeping God who decrees destruction also decrees redemption โ and both flow from the same unshakable character.
Let us reflect on what it means to dwell under the authority of a God whose word does not return void.
