**2 Samuel 15:20** — *"You arrived only yesterday; should I make you wander around with us today while I do not know where I am going? Go back and take your brothers with you. May the LORD show you loving devotion and faithfulness."*
David is fleeing his own son. His throne is collapsing beneath him. And yet — in that raw, disorienting hour — he releases Ittai the Gittite with a blessing rather than clutching him as a resource.
This is covenant character under pressure. David does not hoard loyalty when loyalty is scarce. He offers freedom, and then entrusts the outcome to God's *hesed* — that untranslatable Hebrew word woven through this very blessing: loving devotion.
