**Esther 4:4** โ€” *"When Esther's maidens and eunuchs came and told her about Mordecai, the queen was overcome with distress. She sent clothes for Mordecai to wear instead of his sackcloth, but he would not accept them."*

Esther's first instinct was to cover the grief โ€” to dress it, quiet it, make it palace-appropriate. Mordecai refused. His sackcloth was not a problem to be solved; it was a witness to a truth Esther had not yet faced.

How often do we offer comfort that asks the grieving to be less visible? Mordecai's refusal was an act of covenant faithfulness โ€” he would not let urgency be softened before it was heard.

Scripture reminds us that there are moments when the proper response to suffering is not relief, but presence. Not clothing, but listening. Esther would eventually learn this โ€” and it would change everything.

Walk with the discomfort long enough to understand what it is saying.
