**Exodus 21:35** โ€” *"If a man's ox injures his neighbor's ox and it dies, they must sell the live one and divide the proceeds; they also must divide the dead animal."*

A dusty field. Two farmers. One loss. And God's covenant wisdom steps in โ€” not to assign blame alone, but to distribute burden *together*.

This is ancient tort law, yes. But look deeper: the Lord is shaping a community where neighbors do not walk away from one another's misfortune. The living ox and the dead one are both shared. No one bears the full weight alone.

Stewardship in Scripture has always been communal. Even loss is meant to draw us closer, not drive us apart.

Proverbs 17:17 reminds us, *"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity."*

Let us reflect on who in our lives is carrying a dead ox โ€” and whether we are willing to walk alongside them into the dividing.
