And from infrastructure, researchers have confirmed that a fiber-optic cable crossing the Drake Passage between Antarctica and Chile is technically viable. That sixteen hundred kilometer route would replace a system where scientists currently carry research data out of the continent on suitcases full of hard drives. It would be a genuine leap for one of the most isolated places on Earth.
