Kyle Kirkwood put on a clinic in the nation's capital Sunday, winning the inaugural IndyCar Freedom Two Fifty Grand Prix on the streets of Washington D.C. Starting second, Kirkwood seized the lead early and never looked back across one hundred forty seven laps, crossing the finish line three seconds clear of Christian Lundgaard. A statement win on a brand new stage.
Speaking of statements, Fernando Tatis Junior is absolutely on fire in San Diego. The Padres superstar launched two home runs and drove in four runs Sunday as San Diego dismantled the Minnesota Twins eight to one, completing a three game sweep. Walker Buehler delivered six strong innings, and the Padres keep their grip on the National League wild card picture.
Meanwhile in Seattle, the Chicago Cubs turned a potential sweep loss into an absolute demolition. Ian Happ and Pedro Ramirez each crushed grand slams, combining for ten RBIs between them, as Chicago rolled past the Mariners nineteen to two. Pete Crow-Armstrong added a homer, Michael Conforto went deep as well, and the Cubs sent a message to the rest of the National League.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
