In Seattle, rookie Kade Anderson made his big league debut and kept the Mariners in it long enough for Randy Arozarena to do what Arozarena does. The Cuban outfielder crushed a walk-off two-run shot in the ninth, sending Seattle home with a five to four win. A tough-luck no-decision for the kid, but a memorable first night regardless.
Over in Foxborough, the Eagles left Gillette Stadium empty-handed after the Patriots pulled off a late twenty-four to twenty-one preseason stunner. New England quarterback Behren Morton found Nick DeGennaro on a thirty-seven yard touchdown strike with fifty-seven seconds left, wiping out a Philadelphia lead. Tanner McKee and the Eagles offense showed some life, but the finish just wasn't there.
And in a result that will raise some eyebrows across MLS, Toronto FC walked into Fort Lauderdale and stunned Inter Miami with a pair of goals in a three-minute second-half burst. Josh Sargent and Derrick Etienne Junior did the damage, and Toronto walked away with a two to one road victory that nobody saw coming.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
