Victor Wembanyama is now the captain of France's national basketball program, named to lead the squad heading into FIBA World Cup European qualifying. At just twenty one years old, Wembanyama takes on the armband as one of the most dominant players on the planet — France just handed the keys to the future.
Shifting to the NFL, Tampa Bay and Vita Vea have ended their contract standoff in a big way. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle agreed to a one-year, thirty million dollar extension with the Buccaneers, a deal that gives Vea a six million dollar raise and keeps him anchoring that defensive line for two more seasons. What started as a summer trade request ended with Tampa holding onto one of the best interior defenders in football.
And in Milwaukee, the Brewers own the best record in Major League Baseball, but manager Pat Murphy is not buying into the hype — not yet. Murphy said publicly he doesn't think his team has played great ball, which is either masterful expectation management or a genuine warning shot to a roster that has eight playoff appearances in nine seasons within reach.
