Something old is new again on Substack. The God debates of the early two thousands internet have returned, writers trading arguments about existence and meaning in essay form. It seems some questions refuse to stay settled, rising again in every new space we build for thought.
That hunger for meaning finds another expression in a question being asked about Christian colleges. As public trust in higher education falls to forty two percent, families are scrutinizing whether faith-rooted institutions still hold to what they claim. The question behind the question is always the same: does the institution embody what it professes, or has the form outlasted the conviction?
And perhaps that same longing explains why science fiction endures. Where ancient peoples gathered around fire to hear stories of gods and consequence, we gather around screens watching starships carry the same archetypal weight. When a culture sets aside myth, it does not lose the need for myth. It simply finds new vessels for the oldest questions.
