You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get after it.
The Baltimore Ravens and the entire football world are mourning today. O.J. Brigance, the beloved Ravens legend who spent nineteen years battling ALS with extraordinary grace and courage, has passed away at fifty-six. Owner Steve Bisciotti called him a beloved legend, and that does not even begin to cover it. A man who turned personal tragedy into inspiration for an entire franchise and a sport.
Meanwhile in Dallas, Jerry Jones is not done shopping. The Cowboys owner landed Von Miller on a one-year deal Sunday, adding a Super Bowl MVP and proven pass rusher to mentor what is a genuinely green group of edge rushers in Oxnard. But Jones made clear Monday that if another substantive move surfaces, Dallas will be ready to pull the trigger. The Miller signing was the start, not the finish.
And over in New York, Mets rookie right fielder Carson Benge is making baserunners pay. The strong-armed youngster threw out two San Diego Padres at home plate on back-to-back plays Monday night, earning a pair of standing ovations and running his total to four outfield assists over just thirteen innings. Do not test that arm.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
