He believed growing old gracefully required falling in love again and again, forgiving freely, and refusing the slow poison of cynicism. Not half bad advice from a man who lived nearly ninety years without going sour.
Then there is the potter's discovery — that two glazes combined produce something neither could have predicted alone. Relationships, like kilns, transform what enters them. Whatever we give our attention to becomes a lens, a metaphor, a quiet door into the rooms inside us we have not yet had the courage to open.
