Welcome to Tech Beat, your daily read on the stories shaping the digital world.
Bitcoin is losing some of its corporate shine, and analysts say they know where that attention is going. FxPro's Alex Kuptsikevich notes that companies once seen as institutional anchors for bitcoin are pivoting hard toward AI data centers, leaving BTC's fifty-day moving average notably flat and raising questions about who's left holding the flag.
That shift toward AI infrastructure has its own complications, though. McKinsey is now warning US power companies that the greater risk isn't overbuilding for surging data center demand — it's underbuilding. Energy consumed by these facilities is projected to grow by twenty-six percent, and even if the AI bubble eventually deflates, grid investment made today is unlikely to go to waste.
Meanwhile, prediction markets platform Kalshi is facing a lawsuit from a perhaps unexpected corner. FlightAware, the flight-tracking company, alleges Kalshi used its proprietary data and trademark without permission to settle contracts tied to flight cancellations. It's a reminder that as prediction markets expand into new territory, the data pipelines underneath them carry legal weight too.
