In Sudan's Nuba Mountains, a pastor was taken from his church residence in the town of Heban and executed alongside six others by members of an armed faction. No trial, no recourse — only silence where a life and a congregation once gathered. The world should sit with that silence a moment longer than it does.
From that gravity, we turn inward. A quiet but urgent conversation is stirring among parents and theologians alike — about whether shielding children from hardship does them more harm than good. If faith teaches that God walks through valleys rather than erasing them, perhaps the most loving thing we can offer the young is not comfort, but companionship through difficulty.
And on the matter of forgiveness — a distinction worth holding carefully. Jesus did not say I forgive you to those who crucified him. He said Father, forgive them. That difference asks us to consider whether forgiveness always belongs to us to give, or whether some wounds call us simply to release the outcome toward something larger than our own hurt.
