At the MLB trade deadline, the New York Mets have shipped starting pitcher Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for infielder Jefferson Rojas. Holmes has been sidelined since May fifteenth with a fractured right fibula, and while players on the injured list are tradeable, he'll need to pass a physical with Chicago before this deal becomes official.
Shifting to the hardwood, a Colorado district court judge ruled Friday that the NCAA cannot block athletes who enrolled in college in two thousand twenty two from using a fifth year of eligibility, even if they've already played four seasons. That opens a significant door for several projected two thousand twenty six NBA draft picks, who now have a genuine choice to make about their futures.
And in Chicago, the Bears are dealing with an early training camp scare. New starting safety Coby Bryant went down during one-on-one drills on the first padded practice of the summer with an apparent leg injury and is expected to miss at least eight weeks. It's a tough blow for a secondary that was already counting on Bryant to anchor the back end of this defense.
