OpenAI says it has disrupted a scam network operating out of Cambodia that was using ChatGPT to power investment fraud, romance scams, and impersonation schemes. The company identified and cut off the accounts involved, offering a rare public look at how AI tools are being weaponized by organized criminal operations.
Shifting to the music industry, the three major labels — Universal, Sony, and Warner — have put forward a proposal that would make AI-generated songs ineligible for chart placement entirely. That goes further than existing labeling proposals from industry groups, and signals that the labels are moving from conversation to confrontation on the question of what counts as a real recording.
And the spending figures behind the AI boom are difficult to overstate. Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft have collectively crossed one point one trillion dollars in capital expenditure on AI infrastructure since two thousand twenty three, covering data centers, chips, and power. Analysts expect an additional seven hundred forty five billion to be added in two thousand twenty six alone, suggesting the buildout is nowhere near its peak.
