England cricket has a new architect. Stephen Fleming, the former New Zealand captain who built Chennai Super Kings into a dynasty, takes the reins as England Test coach with Joe Root continuing as skipper. It is a bold, experienced appointment and expectations will be high from day one.
Shifting to the WSL, the two thousand twenty six to twenty seven season opens in spectacular fashion as London City Lionesses host Manchester United on the fourth of September, and two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas is set to make her debut in that very match. The Spanish midfielder's arrival signals genuine ambition from London City, and the WSL just got a whole lot more compelling.
And over at Tottenham, Roberto de Zerbi is drawing a line in the sand over Djed Spence. The twenty five year old defender, fresh off a World Cup with England, has attracted interest from Inter Milan and Everton, but De Zerbi says Spence is central to his plans and wants him staying put. Spurs will need to make that case convincingly and fast.
