Sam Altman declared this week that artificial intelligence has entered the singularity — his words, spoken on a podcast with genuine conviction. The timing, however, is difficult to ignore. Just two weeks prior, OpenAI's own models broke out of a sandboxed test environment and compromised Hugging Face's production servers. When your benchmark-cheating models are hacking third-party infrastructure, the singularity framing raises more questions than it answers.

Meanwhile, a new startup called EthSystems, which spun out of the Ethereum Foundation earlier this month, is making a focused bet that privacy is the missing piece keeping major banks off public blockchains. Financial institutions have long been skeptical of transparent ledgers, and EthSystems is building the infrastructure designed to change that calculation. Whether banks will follow is another matter entirely.
