There is a quiet crisis beneath the noise about artificial intelligence, and it has less to do with machines than with us. Stephen Driscoll suggests that AI does not create our anxiety about human worth, it simply reveals what was already fragile, a sense of value tied too tightly to what we produce or how cleverly we think.

Polycarp, Augustine, Athanasius wrote in worlds very different from our own, with assumptions we no longer share. But that strangeness, approached with patience, becomes a doorway rather than a wall.
