Good morning and welcome to Markets Desk, your midday read on what's moving and why.
Chip stocks led a broad technology selloff Friday, dragging the Nasdaq one hundred lower by more than one percent while the S and P five hundred slipped fractionally. The Dow managed a modest gain, reflecting rotation out of growth and into more defensive corners of the market. Semiconductors remain the pressure point.
Turning to currencies and commodities, the dollar index held essentially flat even as oil prices retreated roughly three percent on the session. The ten year Treasury yield pulled back about three basis points after touching a new one and a half year high earlier in the day, offering some relief to rate sensitive assets and tempering dollar strength.
Meanwhile, the Paramount and Warner Brothers Discovery merger is hitting serious turbulence. A coalition of state attorneys general has filed suit, arguing the deal would meaningfully reduce competition and harm consumers. The legal challenge forces Paramount to delay the transaction, and that uncertainty carries real cost — in time, capital, and strategic momentum.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
