Welcome to Markets Desk, your midday read on what's moving the needle.
Equities are treading water this session, with the S&P five hundred barely positive, up just eleven basis points, while the Nasdaq one hundred slips slightly into the red. Oil pulling back is offering some relief, but traders aren't pressing their bets — caution is the dominant posture heading into the afternoon.
Shifting to public health, the CDC is tracking a rapidly expanding cyclospora outbreak now confirmed across nine states. Four new states — Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania — have joined the list, alongside Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Michigan, which remains the hardest hit. Health officials are urging vigilance as the source of contamination is still under investigation.
And on the defense front, U.S. forces have recorded their first successful intercept of an Iranian Shahed drone using the Merops counter-drone system — a platform battle-tested in Ukraine. The intercept occurred in Kuwait following a surge deployment of the system into the Middle East at the onset of hostilities with Iran. It marks a meaningful operational milestone for that technology.
That's the tape. Markets Desk, signing off the floor.
