Aaron Judge still isn't back on the field, and the Yankees are holding their breath. The captain's broken rib has not fully healed, and New York has not cleared him to resume any baseball activities. For a team chasing a pennant, every day without Judge in the lineup is a day the window narrows.
Shifting to Atlanta, the Braves are sitting on top of the NL East coming out of the break, but the injury front is getting ugly fast. There is serious concern about both Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach suiting up again this season. Losing either one would sting. Losing both would fundamentally change what this rotation can do down the stretch.
And over at the NFL, the league has come down hard on Arizona Cardinals personnel executive Ryan Gold, suspending him indefinitely for violating the league's gambling policy. This is the latest in a string of gambling-related discipline the NFL has handed out, and the indefinite tag makes clear the league is not softening its stance on anyone inside the building who crosses that line.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
