The man now has twelve assists at World Cups, ten of them in the knockout stage alone, a record that sits at least two clear of anyone else in the history of the tournament. At forty three years old, Messi is still rewriting the record books in real time, heading into a final against Spain where Lamine Yamal will line up on the opposite side, nineteen years after that iconic photo of the two of them was taken.
