Macklin Celebrini is everywhere right now, and for good reason. The twenty-year-old San Jose Sharks center has been named the cover athlete for EA Sports NHL, making him the youngest player ever to land that honor in the franchise's history. Not a bad way to spend your offseason.
And it gets better for Sharks fans. Celebrini, who's eligible to sign an extension this summer, told reporters he would one hundred percent consider taking less than market value to keep San Jose competitive. At twenty years old, showing that kind of organizational loyalty before he's even seen his first big payday — that's a franchise cornerstone talking.
Shifting to Philadelphia, Jordan Walker had himself a night at the Home Run Derby, taking down hometown favorite Kyle Schwarber in the final round to claim the title. The Cardinals outfielder said afterward he hopes his win inspires more Black kids to pick up a bat and fall in love with baseball. And while Walker was the main event, his parents' raw, emotional reactions in the stands gave everybody watching something they didn't know they needed.
