You're tuned in to Sports Desk, let's get after it.
Jacob Misiorowski will not take the mound Sunday for Milwaukee against Pittsburgh, scratched with what manager Pat Murphy is calling fatigue. The timing works out — with the All-Star break coming next week, Misiorowski gets extra recovery time, but the Brewers had to face the Pirates without their ace, and Pittsburgh made them pay.
Speaking of the Pirates, they were busy Saturday on multiple fronts. Pittsburgh swept a doubleheader against Milwaukee and then headed to Philadelphia for the draft, where they used the fifth overall pick on LSU outfielder Derek Curiel. It's the second straight time the Pirates have gone back to Baton Rouge in the first round, leaning hard into that LSU pipeline.
And shifting gears completely, Boston is quietly becoming the most dangerous team in baseball right now. The Red Sox looked dead in the water just a couple weeks ago, sitting outside the playoff picture, but the pitching has locked in and those offseason additions are finally clicking. They've gone from afterthought to legitimate threat in a matter of days, and the rest of the American League is starting to notice.
That's your play-by-play. Sports Desk, back to the booth.
